SOMETHING DRIVES ME

Something Drives Me.

By Solomon Buchi Bartholomew

Weeks ago, I was in a betting centre close to home just to charge my gadgets ‘cos there was no power supply in my area. I was reading an eBook on my iPad when this young man who wore a despondent look came in and sat just by my side.  A bit tattered; let's say a struggling man.

He flashed his eyes on my iPad to see what I was doing, and unlike me I never felt infuriated. Then he gently sought to know me.

His English was impeccable. I was surprised the level of grand words he used, and his accent was above average.

He asked me politely who I am and what I do.
I told him I am a life coach, motivational speaker, CBT practitioner and budding psychotherapist. He got interested, asked me random questions of how I started my journey.

I told him I discovered myself at 14, was and still is a voracious reader, I spent most of my nights reading and researching. Did courses and empowered my self. Followed credible people closely..

He asked the school I graduated from. I told I haven't ever been to the university. That was when he was shocked. Like how did I do It?
How did I achieve this?
How how how?

He opened up to me that he was so focused like me but life happened, in his final year in school, he discovered his admission was fake.

And it he dropped out. 10 years ago.

Judging from how he sounded and what he said, he had given up on life, he's just surviving. I spoke to him really, I took my time to plant seeds in him.

See, there's no reality so strong enough to break your vision if something drives you so hard.

I never had the best parenting, things got bad, I lost mom, pressure about being the first son, my dad's disapproval of what I wanted for my life, a lot happened that could deter my vision, but you know what?

Something drives me.

This isn't about your parents financial ability, or the opportunities you have. This is about what drives you.

I know I am not up there, but I really know I am far from average. Something drove me. It drove me to seek knowledge, it drove me to add value to myself, it drove me to develop a culture of always reading, it drove me to see myself there even when I wasn't there yet.

Something drove me.

If something doesn't drive you, anything can bring you down.

I have been discouraged many times..
I've cried many times, even this week..
But what drives me is stronger than my circumstances.

You know one thing I've found out?
The most successful people are not always the most talented. Why?
Because it's one thing to be talented, and another to be consistent.

A consistent fool will make impact than a dormant wise man.

If there's anything that rewards you both negatively and positively, it's consistency..

So in all you face, be there in your place of purpose,
Even if you're not flying, be running..
If you can't run, walk,
If you can't walk, crawl..but make sure on a daily basis there's something you add to yourself that is relevant to your potential.

Nothing can stop you if this drives you.

I am not where I am today because I'm better than you but because I let something drive me, and it really did drive me so much that it surmounted all the crucibles of life's circumstances.

Success needs force. This is not about your bad circumstance, it's about how much you push.

If you knock once on a gate, folks inside might think the street kids just threw a stone and ot mistakenly hit the gate.
But if you stand by the gate, continuously knocking, you're sure to wake someone up from his/her sleep so they open the gate for you.

This is life..
Life gives you because you're consistent, not because you're talented.
